The Bermuda Tourism Authority has unveiled a new mural in the historic town of St. George. The mural which was a collaborative effort with Norwegian Cruise Lines Holdings (NCL) is part of an initiative to integrate contemporary art into high-traffic areas. One of the aims of the experience development programme is to elevate the visitor experience whilst celebrating Bermuda’s rich history.
About the New Mural
Local artist and creator, Shanna Hollis worked tirelessly to create the stunning piece which captures poignant elements of Bermuda’s history. The masterpiece is that it honors the history of St. George’s, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Additionally, it successfully captures the island’s story from the 16th century to the present day. The piece is now a fixture on the Market Wharf Building in the Heart of King’s Square.
To create the piece, Hollis worked alongside cultural heritage experts Charlotte Andrews and Kristin White to integrate historical elements. It is a vivid, colorful, pop-art design which will appeal to residents and visitors of all ages. The mural is part of a strategic placemaking initiative to gel the past, present and future. The initiative will ensure that the historic town remains a treasure of the past and a dynamic, engaging space for the present.
